Every year on March 10th, we do something a little different. We reach into our sock drawer, pull out two that don’t match, and smile — because that’s exactly what Mac would have done.

Mac Parkman was color blind.

The only color he could see with any real clarity was the vivid neon lime green that now forms the heart of our foundation’s logo. Because of that, Mac never matched his socks. When his traditional Army dad once asked him why, Mac’s answer was as simple as it was profound:

“Why is it important?”

It wasn’t defiance. It was wisdom. Mac had a way of cutting through the noise and reminding the people around him what actually mattered — love, family, faith, and the people standing right in front of you. He didn’t sweat the small stuff, and he had a gift for making others feel the same.

That’s why we wear mismatched socks on his birthday.

Not just to remember him, but to carry his spirit forward.

Every pair of mismatched socks is a small act of love — for Mac, for his family, and for every young athlete whose brain health we are working to protect in his name.

This year, we are celebrating Mac’s birthday bigger than ever.

We are bringing his legacy into schools, onto fields, and into the hands of children who never knew him but will be safer because of him.

Mac wore mismatched socks because he could not see the difference between them.

We wear them because we can — and because we choose to honor him, protect young athletes, and carry his legacy forward.

Happy Birthday, Mac. We should have known. 💚
