Veterans Brain Health & Suicide Prevention

They Protected Us. Now We Protect Their Brains.

Awareness is the first step. Understanding it’s an injury is the next.

Every day, veterans face invisible wounds that no one can see — the lasting impact of Repeated Blast Exposure (RBE) and other service-related brain trauma. These injuries silently disrupt sleep, mood, memory, and decision-making — too often leading to despair, addiction, or suicide.

At The Mac Parkman Foundation, we’re changing that outcome. We help veterans, families, and providers recognize brain trauma early, connect to effective treatment, and rebuild hope through education, recovery, and advocacy.

The Hidden Crisis – Invisible Injuries. Visible Impact.

More than 40 veterans die by suicide every day — a heartbreaking statistic tied to injuries we can’t always see.

For thousands, Repeated Blast Exposure (RBE) has quietly altered how their brains function. Over time, it can cause memory loss, aggression, anxiety, and hopelessness — symptoms too often mistaken for purely psychological issues.

But this crisis is preventable. When we recognize RBE for what it is — a physical brain injury, not a weakness — we open the door to healing, recovery, and renewed purpose.

From Awareness to Recovery – Our Approach

We don’t wait for crisis. We act early — educating, identifying, connecting, and advocating.

Our Four Pillars of Change:

Educate: Equip veterans, families, and service officers to recognize brain trauma early.

Identify: Help veterans connect symptoms like irritability, fatigue, and confusion to possible injury.

Connect: Bridge veterans with trusted medical partners offering evidence-informed, life-restoring care.

Advocate: Work with policymakers to expand insurance and VA coverage for brain-health treatments.

Florida Leads the Way – A Model for the Nation

In partnership with the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs (FDVA), The Mac Parkman Foundation launched the state’s first coordinated Veterans Brain Health & Suicide Prevention Program.

Our 2025 Impact:

  • 55,000+ veterans and families reached

  • 11,000 educated through events and training

  • 100 veterans treated with evidence-informed recovery programs

This Florida-based initiative is setting a national standard — showing that when we focus on the brain, we save lives.
